Correlations within the Data

By using articles about the commercials from Super Bowl LI, we used Google Trends data to look for correlation with search volume and popularity of a commercial. On February 5, 2017, the date of Super Bowl LI, many companies with popular commercials (well-known and written about) saw an increase in searches for their brand name. According to our sources, some of the most popular commercials during the 2017 Super Bowl were about Doritos, Avococados from Mexico, Mr Clean, and Skittles, for example. Interestingly, the Mr Clean commercial (on our home page), was generally viewed as a silly, poorly written showing. However, the Mr Clean commercial is highly positively correlated with an increase in searches. These brands' commercials' effect on their search results can be seen below.
